With a background in Commerce and years of entrepreneurial experience, I have developed a unique perspective on how businesses can operate more sustainably while still achieving success. This has become the driving force behind my efforts, whether I’m working to create green zones in urban areas, developing smart city projects, or promoting sustainable products. I see environmental sustainability as not just a trend, but as an essential, long-term commitment that every individual and organization must make.

My journey into the world of sustainability began during my time in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where I worked as an entrepreneur focusing on garment exports throughout the Middle East. In particular, I specialized in the sustainable innerwear market. The apparel industry, especially in regions like the Middle East, has often been associated with high consumption and environmental degradation. Seeing the environmental impact firsthand, I realized the need for more sustainable alternatives in the fashion industry. This realization led me to shift my business model towards promoting sustainable fabrics, ethical sourcing, and environmentally friendly production methods.

One of my key initiatives during this time was to collaborate with manufacturers who adhered to sustainable production processes—using organic cotton, and recycled materials, and reducing water waste. Through this, I helped introduce a range of eco-friendly innerwear products to markets across the Middle East. These products were not only comfortable and high-quality but were also made with a strong emphasis on reducing the carbon footprint.

By promoting sustainable fashion, I aimed to raise awareness about the environmental impact of the garment industry. My entrepreneurial journey taught me that consumer habits could be changed with the right education and ethical alternatives. I strongly believe that businesses have a responsibility to lead the way in sustainable practices, and my experience in the Middle East solidified my resolve to combine business with environmental consciousness.

In 2023, I transitioned from entrepreneurship to focus more directly on environmental sustainability by joining We Grow Forest Foundation in Kerala, India. This marked a significant shift in my career, as it allowed me to concentrate my efforts entirely on environmental initiatives. The foundation’s mission to create green zones, foster urban forestry, and develop smart city projects aligned perfectly with my personal values and long-term goals.

At We Grow Forest Foundation, I am actively involved in urban forestry initiatives that aim to mitigate the adverse effects of rapid urbanization. Our projects involve transforming unused or neglected urban spaces into thriving green zones, planting native species to promote biodiversity, and creating sustainable ecosystems within cities. These initiatives help combat the urban heat island effect, improve air quality, and enhance the overall well-being of urban residents.

My role as an Administrative Assistant goes beyond traditional office work. I am deeply engaged in project coordination, working closely with local government bodies, corporate partners, and community organizations to ensure the success of our projects. One of our key initiatives is the development of smart city projects, where we integrate green technologies, sustainable urban planning, and digital innovations to create environmentally friendly urban spaces.

Our smart city projects are designed to reduce the carbon footprint of cities through green infrastructure, such as energy-efficient buildings, green rooftops, and the use of renewable energy. These projects are essential for ensuring that cities can grow sustainably, without compromising the health of their inhabitants or the environment. I believe that the future of urban living must be rooted in sustainability, and my work at We Grow Forest Foundation is focused on making that vision a reality.

Sustainable living is not just something I promote in my professional life; it is also a personal way of life that I have embraced fully. I have adopted various sustainable practices in my daily routine, from reducing energy consumption to minimizing waste. I believe that individual actions, no matter how small, can collectively have a significant impact on the environment.

One of the key changes I’ve made is in my approach to energy use. I have transitioned to using solar energy for most of my household needs, which has significantly reduced my dependence on conventional electricity sources. This not only reduces my carbon footprint but also serves as a practical example of how renewable energy can be effectively integrated into daily life. I advocate for the use of solar energy wherever possible, whether in homes, businesses, or community projects, as it is one of the most accessible and impactful ways to reduce environmental harm.

I also practice water conservation by using rainwater harvesting systems and reducing water wastage in my home. Water scarcity is a growing concern, and I believe that every individual has a responsibility to conserve this precious resource. Simple practices, such as fixing leaks, using water-efficient appliances, and reusing water where possible, can go a long way in addressing this issue. I have incorporated these practices into my lifestyle and encourage others to do the same.

Waste reduction is another area where I focus my efforts. I follow a zero-waste lifestyle as much as possible, aiming to reduce, reuse, and recycle. By composting organic waste and avoiding single-use plastics, I’ve managed to significantly reduce the amount of waste I generate. I also make conscious choices about the products I buy, opting for eco-friendly, reusable, and sustainable alternatives. For me, sustainable living is not about making drastic changes overnight but about consistently making better choices that are in harmony with the environment.

Beyond my personal and professional commitments, I am passionate about raising awareness and advocating for sustainable living practices within my community. I regularly participate in local environmental campaigns, where I share my knowledge and experiences with others. Whether it’s through workshops, community events, or social media, I aim to inspire individuals to take actionable steps towards living more sustainably.

One of my key advocacy efforts has been to promote the concept of urban forestry. Urban forestry involves planting trees and creating green spaces within cities to improve air quality, provide shade, and enhance biodiversity. I have worked on several campaigns to encourage urban residents to plant trees in their neighbourhoods and participate in the maintenance of green spaces. Trees play a vital role in urban ecosystems, and by involving the community in these efforts, we can create healthier, more sustainable cities.

I am also an advocate for sustainable transportation. In my personal life, I have shifted to using bicycles and public transportation as much as possible to reduce my reliance on fossil fuels. In my role at We Grow Forest Foundation, I work on promoting green transportation solutions within our smart city projects, such as bike-sharing programs and the development of pedestrian-friendly infrastructure. Reducing traffic congestion and lowering emissions through sustainable transportation is crucial for creating cities that are both livable and environmentally friendly.

Additionally, I am involved in educational outreach programs aimed at young people. I believe that instilling a sense of environmental responsibility in the next generation is key to creating lasting change. Through workshops and seminars, I engage with students and young professionals, sharing practical tips on how they can incorporate sustainability into their everyday lives and careers. Empowering young people to become environmental leaders is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work.

Looking ahead, I am committed to continuing my work in environmental sustainability, both professionally and personally. At We Grow Forest Foundation, I aim to expand our urban forestry and smart city projects to reach more communities and create larger, more impactful green zones. I believe that the success of these projects can serve as a model for other cities in India and around the world, demonstrating that urbanization and environmental conservation can go hand in hand.

The challenges we face in terms of environmental degradation and climate change are immense, but I believe that through collective action and individual responsibility, we can overcome them and create a more sustainable future.
